Here's What to Do When Your Furnace Won't Ignite

February 23, 2017

We are trudging through the last of the weeks of winter but we still have to have our furnaces, especially during frigid nights. There’s not a lot that is worse than going to bed at night and realizing your furnace won’t start up. If you find yourself in this situation, here are a couple things you can check yourself before calling Donelson Air Service Experts.

Check Air Filters

You should replace standard air filters each month. If you don’t, they can become clogged, restricting air flow and resulting in your furnace malfunctioning.

Check Your Thermostat

See if turning the temperature up a few degrees will get the furnace to turn on. If the actual room temperature is higher than the thermostat, the heating system won’t turn on. Also, verify the system switch is on “heat” or “auto.”

Check the Power

It may seem obvious, but make sure the power switch next to the heating equipment is “On.” Even gas heating equipment uses electricity so confirm the breaker has not tripped and that the power switch was not accidently flipped to the “Off” position.

If you review all these things and your heating equipment will still not turn on, give Donelson Air Service Experts a call at 615-953-9885 and we’ll come out and get you heating again as soon as possible.
