Getting Ready for Air Conditioning Season

April 30, 2016

Summer isn’t here yet but the temperatures are definitely increasing and that means it’s time for air conditioning season. Before the heat sets in and you’re running your air conditioning unit 24/7 to stay comfortable, don’t forget to call your air conditioning technician to visit your home and conduct your yearly ac maintenance.

In addition to an AC system tune-up, there are a couple other ways you can prepare for the cooling season before summer is officially here to stay.

  • Clean Your System

No, we aren’t implying that you should take your air conditioning unit apart, let an expert do that, but you can clean up the space around your A/C to remove twigs and leaves that have made their way to your air conditioner during the windy winter and stormy spring. Cut the grass around the system and cut back any overgrown plants or vegetation to make sure your air conditioning unit is clear of debris. Keeping the airway clear can help keep your system running properly.

·     Change Your Home’s Air Filters

Donelson Air Service Experts will replace your home’s basic air filters when they conduct your seasonal tune-up as part of your standard A/C maintenance. You can (and should) also replace your HVAC air filters by yourself, and it’s recommended that you do so at least every four to eight weeks for optimal performance. If you don’t change your air filter it accumulates dust, allergens, and germs so for the health of your family and the efficiency of your air conditioning equipment, make sure you’re changing those filters as part of your standard cooling equipment service. Remember, a clogged filter could actually damage your AC equipment.

  • Block the Sun

Hanging blackout drapes or window shades can help keep your home cooler and avoid the sun from heating up your home. This may also help protect your furniture and floors from fading or experiencing sun damage over time.

·     Check Alarm Batteries

If you didn’t spend daylight savings checking the batteries in your smoke and CO detectors, now it the perfect time. While you’re at it, check the batteries in your thermostat to make sure it is functioning properly so you don’t end up calling your air conditioning repair technician because your system isn’t running and then it ends up just being the thermostat. You could also consider investing in a smart thermostat so you can adjust the temperature remotely and save money on your energy bills.

A yearly A/C system tune-up service could make your air conditioner up to 30% more efficient and save you money on your cooling bills. Call Donelson Air Service Experts today to make sure your air conditioner is prepared to keep you cool and comfortable through the summer and find out about our spring specials on A/C system tune-ups.
