The season of spring may have arrived but in Nashville it’s not all warm and snug outside. Your furnace has been working for months attempting to keep the inside of your home comfortable, so now is the time to make sure you’re giving your furnace some TLC. If you hear abnormal noises or the heating system has turned itself off, you may be in need of a furnace repair. If you notice a strong gas smell, you almost definitely need furnace repair work and you should call Donelson Air Service Experts immediately.

Before you decide that you need a furnace repair technician, check out these tips from Donelson Air Service Experts.

  • Make sure your thermostat is set to “heat.”

It may sound laughable, but we have hectic days and life happens, so it can be easy to overlook the simple fixes. Neglecting to change over the thermostat can make you think you need furnace repair when really you can remedy the problem with a literal flip of the switch!

  • Check your furnace switch.

Since we’re talking about switches, make sure your furnace switch is in the up, or “on” position. Like we said, an easy miss, especially when you remember this switch isn’t one you tend to look at usually. Most systems have built-in delays so be patient when you turn your furnace on and give it a few minutes to get going before panicking about calling our furnace repair man.

  • Swap your furnace air filter.

You should change your home’s air filters at least every three months to help your furnace run more efficiently and prolong any furnace repair work. A filthy air filter is one of the most recurrent reasons for poor performance in furnaces, and they can also be a breeding ground for germs and cause you and your family to become sick. Replace your filter to keep both your furnace and your loved ones healthy.

  • Check the circuit breaker.

Check your circuit breaker panel to see if the breaker that controls your furnace is in the middle position or the “off” position. If the breaker has ended up in the middle position, cycle the breaker to “off” and then reset it to the “on” position.

Furnace repairs could be expensive, so avoid a potential issue altogether with seasonal maintenance from Donelson Air Service Experts. However, if you ever do need furnace repair, we are available 24/7/365 to service all your heating needs.
